Album Review: Weird

Weird by YUNGBLUD

Dominic Harrison, otherwise knows as Yungblud, is back with his second album. Released on the 4th December, after months of teasing songs to his fans.

Anticipation was built up and finally the album was dropped, releasing a wide range of incredible, head banging, fast paced hits!

I think it was a bit weird to start the album off with a slow song but then in the second verse it picked up and I enjoyed listening to it. I like the song and the meaning behind it but I probably wouldn’t listen to it all the way through.

cotton candy

I love this song! It’s so catchy and just great vibes. I definitely would have this on repeat and I know it’ll probably be of my favourite's on the album.

strawberry lipstick

This was the first single I heard from the album and I literally had it on repeat for the longest time. This song is so addictive, and so is the music video too. This is the best head banging style song; I need to hear him sing this live! Also, the outro of this is so sick and the instruments being so evident throughout the song is a bonus.

mars

Verse two of this was when I proper go into it, but I was hooked onto it from the very beginning as it just felt like he was telling a story which I loved. This song wasn’t amazing but I don’t know why I really like it.

superdeadfriends

Very intrigued by the beginning sounds of this song, and then bang it was so powerful. Everyone needs to listen to this. All I can imagine is hearing this performed live with the bets set up. I know I’m going to have this played non-stop for ages now. I also like the fact that the pre-chorus is so much more chilled, which build up the energy fir the chorus.

love song

So far I’m loving that the songs have an alternate order of being really fast paced and then chilled, and this is another relaxed song. I know I prefer Yungblud’s fast paced songs a lot more than his softer ones but this was pretty good. I don’t really enjoy it as a whole but the lyrics are very endearing, and I enjoyed the beat change in verse two. As the song went on it did get better and I started to enjoy it a bit more.

god save me, but don't drown

When I first heard this I wasn’t a fan of it, there was just something about it that wasn’t appealing to me. It is quite catchy and has great meaning behind the lyrics but I just don’t like the song, and it’s just too repetitive in my opinion.

ice cream man

WOW, the sound of an actual ice cream van was very deceiving of how the song sounded a few seconds later. Yet again, the instruments are brilliant during the song and really added to this strong voice. I’m not really sure what the song is actually about but it’s definitely a fun song to listen to.

weird!

This came out in the first lockdown and I’m convinced it was my quarantine anthem. It’s just so catchy, has great vibes and was so relatable to everyone last year. I love it!

charity

This is a very unusual sounding song but weirdly good. It gives me old school Busted and Mcfly vibes, which is very cool. This is just another good vibes song that I enjoyed listening to.

acting like that (feat. Machine Gun Kelly)

I didn’t really enjoy this at first, the chorus did get better but I just don’t think it’s my type of song. Ever since Yungblud started doing collabs, I’ve always thought he makes songs better when it’s just him on it. I did enjoy the chorus with both MGK and Yungblud were singing though but overall I’m not a massive fan of this.

it's quiet in beverly hills

This song is beautiful, it’s so touching and peaceful. I loved this song, and when he sings slowly like this, similar to polygraph eyes, I really enjoy it. He sings so warmly, you just want lay down somewhere quiet and take in all of the lyrics he’s singing. This is one of my faves!

the freak show

This is such Halloween vibes, I just picture Frankenstein and lanterns when I listen to this. I don’t know if I like it as the ending track but I very much like that it kind of gives me Vampire by Dominic Fike vibes, if he was more hard-core rock. Omg, the refrain switch up was so good, this is where is started getting so sick! Okay so it started off a bit iffy but then as soon as it switched up I understand why it was the last song because this was incredible to end it with.

This album was full of so much excitement. I definitely didn’t expect it to be this good but it surpassed my expectations. I can’t wait to be blasting this non stop now, and now be able to recommended my favourite’s to everyone.

Hopefully with restrictions easing soon, I’ll get to see him live but until then, ‘Weird’ will continue to be played until further notice.
