NOTES ON A CONDITONAL FORM
- The 1975
The 1975
I actually enjoy listening to this because even though it's a speech by environmentalist Greta Thunberg, it's very eye opening and intriguing so I enjoy listening to it and I don't normally skip it too (I won't be rating it though).
People
Woah, don't have your volume on too loud for this one. The end of the speech ended with talks of rebellion and this begins and it feels like a rebellion, this song is a lot of fun to listen to!
RATING: 7.5/10
The End (Music For Cars)
This is the first interlude on the album and the instruments are beautifully played, but this isn't my favourite interlude on the album and you'll soon hear my favourite one.
Frail State Of Mind
This isn't my favourite song on the album but I still enjoy listening to it but there's just nothing amazing about it. The production of it though is very different which I like.
RATING: 6.5/10
Streaming
This is my fave interlude on the album, and I don't even know why. It's just constructed so well and it's just so peaceful and relaxing; listening to his is like listening to an actual song so this obviously doesn't get skips.
The Birthday Party
The end of streaming leads onto this song and the merge was very well executed that you don't even realise it happened. This is a very mellow and chilled song so after a bit I do find it a tiny bit boring so depending on my mood it would decide whether I listened to it all the way through.
RATING: 6.5/10
Yeah I Know
Weirdly I actually like this song, because it's not really a proper song as it feels like it's half song half interlude but I think it's pretty cool. So far, you can already tell how creatively different The 1975 have gone with this album; a whole new era and style for them.
RATING: 7/10
Then Because She Goes
A very short but amazing song. These songs are so original and unique that you can't help but love them. Their songs portray such deep meanings but with such cool tones and a balance between lyrics, instruments and everything else.
RATING: 7.5/10
Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America
For me I think this is where the album picks up and becomes very incredible. This song is beautiful and the harmonies and delicate voices sang throughout is so heart warming. I belie this song should be in some sort of romance/coming of age movie because it needs to be heard by everyone. This was one of the songs I had on repeat all of lockdown last year.
RATING: 8.5/10
Roadkill
I don't know why but this song gave me great old vibes of them, and I always love hearing past styles of an artist in their new music. I haven't listened to this album all the way through in a while and I honestly don't remember this being on here but I really like it.
RATING: 7/10
Me & You Together Song
This song!!! I could I have this on repeat for the rest of my life. I don't think there's not a week where I don't go to put this on. It has such 00's vibes, especially the music video, and I love putting this on. I can't wait to hear this performed live.
RATING: 10/10
I Think There's Something You Should Know
Another short but great song, and I would gladly listen to this. They seem to be able to make such creative songs that no matter the vibe, production or length of it, it can still be happily listened to.
RATING: 7.5/10
Nothing Revealed / Everything Denied
Another favourite from me! This is another song that is just beautifully executed and it has so many different aspects of it that just make it ridiculously good. Of course it's a song that I have on repeat constantly. I would love to hear this live with a choir singing the chorus because that would sound insane.
RATING: 9.5/10
Tonight (I Wish I was Your Boy)
This has a questionable beginning but a great pre-chorus and chorus. You can evidently hear Matty's voice and I love that. His voice is amazing and this song shows it so well. I didn't realise how much I like this song but it's great.
RATING: 7/10
Shiny Collarbone
What a sick interlude! Caribbean vibes and cool instrumentals are a bit of me and that is exactly what this is. I would definitely listen again.
If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)
I think was the first single I heard from this album and I thought it was very good, and I still do obviously. It is just an all rounder great tune and it also gives me old vibes from them too; I could see this being featured on their previous album. They're just so versatile to so many different styles, that you can't but want to get up and sing or dance to all of them.
RATING: 8.5/10
Playing On My Mind
I have mixed opinions about this song because I like it but at the same time there's something I don't like about it. It does get better as it goes on but it's not my favourite on the album.
RATING: 6.5/10
Having No Head
This interlude is one I'm unsure about because although the instruments are beautiful and have a great sound I do think that it is too long for no reason. I would probably listen to some of it but not all the way though. However, half way through it does pick up to a more fast paced beat so it does get better.
What Should I say
Another questionable start to a song but it does get better from the chorus (which I rwally like). I may listen to this or decide not to, depending on my mood but it isn't a bad song, although it is quite repetitive.
RATING: 6.5/10
Bagsy Not Net
Yet again, another short one which seems to be a reoccurring theme for the boys but they seem to be able to make them very good ones, so I'm not complaining. The chorus was quite enjoyable but overall it wasn't too amazing.
RATING: 5.5/10
Don't Worry
It makes sense that this was written by Matty's dad when he was a baby because it sounds like a nursery rhyme, or some sort of hymn, but it weirdly has a wonderful lyrics and meaning behind them. I also never noticed this song before so I'm glad I've heard it again and has taken it in properly.
RATING: 7/10
Guys
Another favourite from me, definitely in my top five songs from them ever. Anyone can relate this song to whoever they want to and it will touch your heart. These guys make such powerful songs that sit with you forever, and this is one of them. I love this song and will always have this playing; no matter what my mood is. I want everyone to hear this one too.
RATING: 10/10
This album was amazing and it definitely was the highlight of my lockdown last year, especially considering how long it had been since I had properly listened to The 1975. It is a very long album but it's worth the the listen so I highly recommend everyone goes and listens to this and just properly takes it all in because it is a must.
All four of their albums have consisted of back to back hits and they're incredible and so amazingly talented for that. This album has so many songs that I have been singing along to for the past year now, repeatedly, and will forever continue to do that.
